Laiki or Popular Bank, the island's number two lender, was dismantled under the terms of a bailout agreed with the troika -- the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank -- in March. The deal was set after the Cypriot government agreed to force depositors and bondholders in Cyprus's leading banks to take huge losses in order to keep the country's banking system from imploding.
