Cyprus made its first official appearance with a National Pavilion at the international maritime trade fair SMM Hamburg 2026, held in Hamburg from 1 to 4 September, attracting more than 50,000 visitors from 134 countries and around 2,300 exhibitors from 66 countries.
According to a press release by the Ministry, the National Pavilion was organised by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Cyprus Trade Centre of the Republic of Cyprus in Berlin. It brought together the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) Centre of Excellence and nine Cypriot companies.
The participating organisations and companies presented services, technologies and innovative solutions across a wide range of areas in the maritime industry, including maritime connectivity and communications, artificial intelligence and automation, technical and electromechanical services, ship repair and maintenance, navigation and satellite communications, as well as software development and technological solutions.
As part of Cyprus’ participation, the 'Cyprus Maritime Innovation Event' was held on 2 Septembe, featuring presentations by Cypriot organisations and companies and a roundtable discussion on innovation, sustainability and competitiveness in the maritime sector. Among other issues, the event highlighted the advantages of the Cyprus Flag and Cyprus’ potential as a maritime centre.
At the same time, Cypriot companies held business meetings with representatives of international maritime and technology companies and other organisations, exploring opportunities for cooperation and business development.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Cyprus’ presence at SMM Hamburg 2026 highlighted the breadth and expertise of the country’s maritime ecosystem in innovation, technology and maritime services, while providing Cypriot companies with opportunities for international exposure and the development of new business contacts.
