Industrial production up 3.4% in first five months of 2025

The Industrial Production Index recorded an increase of 3.4% for the period January - May 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to data published by CySTAT.

Comparing the rates of change for the period January – May 2025 against the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant increases were observed in the manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (+13.5%), water collection, treatment and supply (+10.4%), the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (+8.7%), mining and quarrying (+7.9%) and wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (+7.2%).

The only activities where decreases in production were registered compared to the period January – May 2024 were those relating to the manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing (-14.4%), the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (-2.3%), the manufacturing of refined petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products and pharmaceutical products and preparations (- 1.4%) and the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (-0.9%).

In May 2025, the Industrial Production Index reached 113.7 units (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 1.7% compared to May 2024.

The manufacturing sector registered an increase of 1% compared to May 2024. An increase was also observed in the sectors of mining and quarrying (19.3%) and water supply and materials recovery (12.4%). A negative change was observed in the electricity supply sector (-1.2%).

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant increases compared to May 2024 were observed in the manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (8.7%), rubber and plastic products (8%) and wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (7.1%).

The most important drops were observed in the manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing (-10.7%) and refined petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products and pharmaceutical products and preparations (-5.8%).
